Visit by coach to Farley Farmhouse and Charleston

A coach visit is planned to Farley Farmhouse ( Lee Miller and Roland Penrose) and Charleston (Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant) in East Sussex.

Lee Miller and Roland Penrose moved to the Sussex countryside to live at Farleys in 10949. For the 35 years that followed they filled their home with a collection of contemporary art treasures and were visited by some of the key personalities of twentieth century art.

The modernist home and studio of the painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Charleston was a gathering point for some of the 20th century’s most radical artists, writers and thinkers known collectively as the Bloomsbury group. It is where they came together to imagine society differently, and has always been a place where art and experimental thinking are at the centre of everyday life.
